Christians who experienced new birth in the Lord Jesus have problems living in the new nature they now possess.
They feel that nothing has really changed for they are still doing the same things
they did before they became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
They never give any sign of a changed life to their friends or families.
Hardly there is any change in their habits, attitudes, talk and deeds.
They do things contrary to what they know they should not be doing.
The question is what is that they are doing wrong.
Why couldn’t they lead a different and changed life?
Paul helps us to understand some important truth from Romans 6:1-10.
Every person born to a woman has a DNA called SIN.
No matter who we are, we are born with sin in our hearts.
Sin separates the human from the relationship with a living GOD.
So God instituted the animal sacrifice to pay for human sin in the Old Testament.
The Bible says that without shedding the blood there is no forgiveness of sin.
The Temple worship, the sacrifices, the priesthood and the festivals were all part
of that institution where repenting human was given an opportunity to seek forgiveness.
The prophets prophesied a perfect one time sacrifice provided by God in Christ.
So Lord Jesus died on the cross and paid the penalty for all human sin.
On the Cross Lord Jesus became the Lamb of God, a perfect one time sacrifice.
Lord Jesus Christ redeemed the human race from the wrath of God and also from the eternal punishment of hell.
I. CHRISTIANS ARE DEAD TO SIN
In the eyes of God, when a person believes in Lord Jesus, he/she died with His Son.
They escape the eternal punishment and are heaven bound.
We should not forget that the old sin nature still tries to control us and compel us to sin.
“Christians are dead to the power of sin, but sin is not dead to the Christian”.
Satan will always look for opportunities to tempt and drag the Christian and divert his/her interests from the Spiritual matters.
Staying on course is possible only when we stay close to the Lord and His Word.
Equally it is important that we continue to fellowship with fellow believers.
Most importantly love for the Lord Jesus Christ can help us to stay out of trouble.
II. CHRISTIANS ARE NEW CREATION
When a person believes in the Lord Jesus he/she identifies with God’s family.
The blood of Christ covers the old sinful human nature and immediately the Holy Spirit begins to indwell the believer and forever changes that person.
In the baptism he/she will declare to Satan publicly that he/she belongs to Christ.
The believer in Lord Jesus has a totally new way of life to live.
As a part of God's family, the believer must make choices as to whether to sin or not sin and has the power and freedom to make such choices.
III. THE NEW WAY OF LIVING
The moment after we know the Lord personally our ongoing life should change with a desire to love HIM and live with HIM and live in HIM.
We died to sin once for all and the life we are living must be for the Lord.
Every day, we will life for HIM, we will live with HIM and we will live in HIM.
May the Lord help us to draw close to HIM every day and all the time.
